Princess Marigold and the Lost Crown
Princess Marigold had a beautiful crown.
It was gold, with seven small flowers on it. She wore it every single day.
One morning, the crown was gone.
"Where is my crown?" said Marigold.
Nobody knew.
She looked in her bedroom. Not there. She looked in the kitchen. Not there. She looked in the garden. Not there either. But in the garden, she found a trail of very small muddy footprints.
"Hello?" said Marigold.
A rabbit peeked out from behind a rose bush.
"Did you take my crown?" said Marigold.
"Only to borrow it," said the rabbit. "Rabbits have to borrow things to know what they are."
"And what is it?" said Marigold.
"Very itchy," said the rabbit. "Too small. Too shiny. Good for balancing carrots on, though."
Marigold found her crown on top of the rabbit's burrow, holding up a very large carrot.
"Thank you," said the rabbit. "It was very useful."
Marigold put the crown back on her head. The carrot fell over.
"Sorry about your carrot," said Marigold.
"Never mind," said the rabbit. "I know where there is a very good hat."
"No," said Marigold firmly.
But she gave the rabbit three more carrots before she went inside.
Because a princess is always kind.
Even to rabbits who borrow things.
